Default [WR] Otter Valley, Devon - Really, really cold....

Today's maximum was just 6.0°C making it the coldest day since the 3rd
of February 2015 (5.8°C). The entire winter of 2015/16 didn't produce a
high maximum as low as today's.

There also occurred a very rare event today, freezing fog! Though it
didn't last long and the temperature soon climbed above freezing but it
was only the 2nd time in 10 years I have seen it. The fog gradually
disappeared and 4 hours of 'not that warm' sunshine occurred from late
morning until mid-afternoon.

Another very cold night is upon us. The Devonshire folk around 'ere are
struggling with this Arctic weather...... Wood burner blazing away but
eating into my winter stash already. And to think, my lowest maximum for
December last year was 11.2°C.

A lot warmer down here Nick.
10C up at Culdrose
11.2C at St Ives
12.1C at Land's End
12C at St Mary's hilltop airport
13.4C on St Martins.

I haven't checked the final max in Penzance, but it was certainly above yesterdays max 10.7C.

Seems to be milder air affecting Scilly and the tip of Cornwall, to the west of the low cloud that plagued parts of SE Cornwall.

An absolute cracker of a day, as these temperatures were combined with sunshine and very little breeze.

We've been sat in an inversion boundary all day and it was a different
story on the hills either side of the valley where it was much warmer. A
slight drift in off the sea would have made all the difference but it
stayed away though tantalisingly close.

A rare event indeed today as normally the sun warms/stirs things up a
bit but it was weakened by mist and fog.

Hopefully that was our winter as I've had enough now.

Well you're all bloomin soft that's all I have to say. I have been sitting
outside the last three days for my morning coffee, it's been that benign with
maxes of 5, 6, 6, 7 and 8 with hardly any wind and sunshine. Lovely with frost
on the ground as well. Not lit my log fire yet as it is has not got cold enough!
You'd all freeze in a mild Dartmoor winter I suspect :-)

.......and here's me thinking that our max of 6.7C today was pretty mild :-)
