What a horribly cold May day. That wind made it feel particularly cool and
with only the briefest glimpses of the sun failing to stop the dull chill.

A max of only 12.1°C, and that was only for a short time during a rare sunny
bit, otherwise the temperature was bumping along 10°C for much of the day.

No rain despite a threatening looking sky at times.

Cold May days seem to occur every year, though temperatures below 15°C are
not frequent and on average happen on 4 days during the month. To find a May
day as cold as this one you have to go back to May 27th 2007 with 11.0°C. As
with this cold May day, it occurred during a NE spell of weather and must
have been an especially cold-feeling day, coming near the end of the month
and in a month that was actually quite warm overall.

The temperatures soon recovered after the 27th and things turned warm. This
warmth lasted through until the 13th June, and then the summer took a turn
for the worst with cool, wet and windy weather dominated until the last few
days of July.
