I can hardly believe there can be such a difference over less than 200
miles at this time of year. In my sheltered Somerset back garden it is
28C with a dew point of 18C, and I am beginning to wilt.

Our nearest town, Helensburgh, is about seven miles to our south-east.
Frequently the weather is markedly different from that here at any time
of the year.

It's a long time ago now, but yes, I was under the distinct impression that she was talking about Sunday, and not Monday John!

And yes Carole Kirkwood has just come out with a similar line this morning for today, although she did qualify it I think by saying something about the highest temperatures being in Kent, which is not surprising as the 1000-500 hPa thickness for Trappes at 0000 UTC was 5693 M and Herstmonceux 5677 M indicating some really quite warm air pushing up across the SE.

If Aviemore is 29c, I would bet your bottom dollar that some remote Highland glen has already registered over 30c. Thats always been the problem with these remote areas, lots of spectacular weather happens there, which is invariably never recorded! Ive been stravaiging these glens for many years, and confirm that under synoptic conditions such as are prevailing now, some of these narrow sided glens trap the heat something awful!

Anyone remember this scenario of about ten years ago?
A spring warm front got hooked up over the Carpathians. To the N., Pc air driving snow, T-3C. 20 miles S, Tc air from the Med, light winds T25C.
As someone brought up on the Yorkshire coast, I can fully believe that an E.. drift from a still slightly chilly N. Sea would bring drizzle to Derby, no matter how long an a/c has been sitting over us.
