Maybe that cold air is pushing a little further south than expected.
There is a warning out for snow in essex later on today.

Snap with temp & dew point, I don't see snow here today. The radar looks
pretty weak, would need to be heavy rain to turn to snow. Not convinced,
at least here at Southend.

I believe the front will intensify later on today from the south west
with that cold air cutting in. Like you I don't think we'll see
anything worse than maybe some sleet after dark today.

Well the warning is still out but at 4.8C the temperature will need to fall
a fair bit in the evening and not rise as the front comes in.

Is that based on the latest Weather Warning? As often, the "headline" is
very misleading when you look at the tiny proportion of the SE shown by
the map coloration and detailed text to be at risk.

I still don't understand how 1 inch of snow can be described as
"heavy".

The old definitions had it right I feel:-

Up to 2 inches (5cm) - light snowfall
2-6 inches (15cm) - moderate snowfall
6 inches - heavy snowfall

It really starts to get disruptive above 6 inches (15cm).

Now they use rates of accumulation.
