Flooding in some places following heavy rain. In the village of Ename near Oudenaarde (south of Ghent) "cars were floating in the streets" after a cloudburst. Storms and flooding also around Kortrijk by the French border. Around Tournai sandbags had to be placed around some houses to prevent the entry of floodwater. Details from the website of Belgian (Flemish) TV http://tt.vrt.be/tt_een.php?p=110&g=0&s=1&r=0&x=1 Colin Youngs Brussels |

Dry on the way there and soaked on the way back. Just about the biggest raindrops i've ever seen. Warm and HUGE! No lightning, just rain you could shower in. I'm amazed drops that big hold together long enough to get that big and make it to the ground in one peice. No measurements sadly. The overnight storms across western Spain and Portugal looked equally impressive. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/satpics/latest_VIS.html Jon. |
