It's only gone like that recently (cutting off very close to South Kent) and luckily, I captured some avbrief radar images last October during the 27/28th rainfall event, so we can compare. I've uploaded one to my webspace, together with yesterday's (24th) 2230 images from Avbrief and the Met Office website. The dates and times are in the filenames: http://www.daveludlow.clara.net/weat...41027_1700.gif http://www.daveludlow.clara.net/weat...50224_2230.gif http://www.daveludlow.clara.net/weat...50224_2230.gif I think it's clear what the OP is referring to, and how things are different from last October. I'm sure Avbrief and the Met Office won't mind me posting these images for illustrative purposes and I may well send them to Avbrief if it isn't "fixed" very soon - unless, of course, I can be persuaded that I have the wrong end of the stick! Dave, thanks for the illustration. I'm puzzled though. The radar masks on the 2 Avbrief images, and hence the area of coverage, appear identical. Am I missing something ? Compare the avbrief image for 2230 on the 24th with the Met Office image for the same time, in the Eastern English Channel. A large area of precip. SE of Beachy Head across to the French coast is shown on the Met Office image but is completely absent from the avbrief image. ... It isn't a case of "better" or "worse", this is a problem that needs to be reported to Avbrief so they can get it fixed! The two radar images were essentially identical at 21:30, except that: 1) as usual, avbrief is showing patches of lighter rain than the Met Office radar - especially in the English Midlands 2) the avbrief image seems to be cut off on the English side of the Dover Straits instead of going across to the French coast. I haven't got access to the Avbrief data so am not sure exactly what the problem is, or if there genuinely is one as the above appears consistent with my previous understanding of how the two data feeds differ. It will be interesting to see if anything changes in March when RadarnetIV becomes operational, at least provisionally. Jon. |
