Default Can anyone remember...

Which year it was that there was a massive thunderstorm during the
Wimbledon tennis championships? I think they had over 1" rain in under
an hour!

I haven't been able to Google it, as I don't know the year...

1985. Definately 1985.

I recall an intepid person still sitting at the top of the stand,
a cameraman perhaps, umbrella being battered by wind & rain.

It was on the 2nd Friday, so must have been July 5. The 'Wimbledon
Compendium' says that 1.5 inches fell in 20m.

The Cliff Richard sing-a-long was on July 3, 1996.
