Default OT- can someone remember this??

Hi,

Last winter when we were moaning about having not much snow one of the
newsgroup mentioned a place in Austria which was very cold and had loads of
snow. Can anyone remember where about in Austria it is?? and the site with
the information on??

I'm asking because my family and I have decided to move to Austria next year
to run self-catering apartments in a ski resort. We are going over in
October to look at some properties.

Thanks.

Nigel

I'm sure that post was by Ian Curry. No doubt he will furnish you with
that info as soon as he reads this post.

Hi,

Thank-you to you both.

I did look in google but not in the right place.

I think we are going to settle in Carthina maybe Bad Kienkrichheim ( Or
BKK). Anyone visited there or skied there??? What are the conditions like
there??
Are there any sites ( in English German is not that good yet!!) that have
information of previous winters in the ski resorts in Austria.

Thank-you.

Nigel

Yes Mark was correct. It was me who visited this part of Austria and wrote
about it in Weather eye magazine. I have contacted Nigel.
I have just returned from Switzerland where I had just one day of rain. I
made a number of journeys into the high mountains beyond the snow line to
look at the glaciers and was amazed to see the decline especially in some
that I had last visited 30 years ago.
For those who like fresh snow I climbed to the Monte Leone hut and
experienced lying snow from the previous day. It is around the 2800 metres
mark.
Incidentally I was speaking to a chap who owns a chalet on the Simplon Pass
and he told me that in early May this year almost a metre of snow fell
overnight and it eventually amounted to a depth of 1.5 metres. He was
marooned for 3 days before being dug out by the Swiss army and Highway snow
ploughs. He said that his total snowfall was around 10-11 metres since the
previous early autumn. He is at a height of 2100 metres.
All of the snow had melted with very few patches even at 2500 metres(8202
feet) when I visited the locality last week.

Hi Ian,

If you want to contact me please use this e-mail

n g fletcher 'at' ic 24 'dot' net

Do you think the Austrian ski resorts will continue to get enough snow?? We
are looking at ones where the top base is at least 2000m and the resort
above 1000m.

When we go I will have to give some weather observations of my 1st winter
there.

Thanks.

Nigel
