Anyone remember this?

One of the first weather event that got me interested in the subject.
I cannot remember when but I think it was late winter or even early
spring and probably on a northly air stream.
I was only young it was the early eighties and I was living in North
Leeds at the time.

The day started with a hail shower with fairly small hail this fell
heavy for a short time giving a temp cover, during the late moring and
early afternoon the was a number a snow showers, non of these gave
cover but later in the afternoon approx 3pm it started hailing and
this started to settle. There was then a bolt of lightning anfd the
hail became heavier. The thunder and lightning carried on for sometime
and the hail was coming down in sheets even after the lightning
stopped the hail carried on for sometime longer. After it stopped
there was a covering of atleast 15cm of perfectly spherical hail
stones around 5 - 10mm diamiter.

Anyone know when this happened or witnessed it?
Anyone got anyy newspaper articles or such?
