So it was a flash of lightning I saw to our south near Crediton last night.

Much action our way around midnight - but a very modest 0.8mm of
rain. Bright echoes on the radar

The lightning flickered and the thunder rumbled for an hour but it never
got close and not a drop of rain fell.

This part of Devon is still parched, brown and dusty. Noticed a few
trees suffering from drought stress today. Mainly beech but a few
willows and birches were shedding their leaves also.

The brook at the bottom of my garden has virtually dried up and the
River Otter is very low.
