slight drizzle for much of the time.

I can hardly believe there can be such a difference over less than 200
miles at this time of year. In my sheltered Somerset back garden it is
28C with a dew point of 18C, and I am beginning to wilt.

Are you being serious??

Temperature differences of that order ocurr over far shorter distances
than that at this, or indeed any other time of year.

It's strange we all probably get our forecast from the BBC but I'm sure that Nina Ridge said 31 possibly 33°C for the SE this morning at 8:15 (the SE aka London)...

They obviously modify it as they go along - a bit like inserting the latest obs data into the next run of the model...

Heathrow have come up to No 6, but North Devon have pipped Aviemore for the No 1 spot..

Really? Mid July inland UK with no sea breeze?

I would love you to show me an example.

Yes, I have a chart from the mid 80s with a temperature of 15C over
Brest, and 40C at Lyon, but that is France and a warm front was between
the two, with an easterly ahead of it and a southerly behind.

Happens all the time when there is thick cloud cover in play. Can easily
be 18C when cloud spreads inland here from the North Sea and 28C in West
London.
