Sorry if this has been posted before.
But is anyone taking part in this experiment conducted by the beeb, downloading software to run on your own PC. http://www.bbc.co.uk/climatchange I'm curious, I certainly have spare bandwidth and one computer that could be used. But as the beeb's web site seems a little busy just now and I can't access the faq there. The important thing for me is the security aspects, does anyone have any reservations in this regard. Cheers John DH |

No, I've been running the model for nearly two years now and I have had no problems. Cheers, Alastair. |

No problems here either, there is no personally identifiable information sent by the program, only program data |

Cheers John DH I posted this a week or so ago but there were no takers :-( snip I've joined the "uk.sci.weather" team, currently 4 computers running. Some interesting information with regards you own computer and 'teams' computers results all in the bbc.cpdn.org site. Currently 151 Countries running 124,396 Hosts. http://bbc.cpdn.org/usermap.php If your interested in joining, as posted before... snip http://bbc.cpdn.org/index.php A 'group' for interested parties to join. URL is he http://bbc.cpdn.org/create_account_form.php?teamid=698 Direct email to "lists at reiteration dot net" for account details snip Surely we should be the ones promoting such things. Give it a go if you haven't already. Regards -- Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net snip -- Keith (Southend) http://www.southendweather.net |

taking part in this experiment conducted by the beeb, snip The important thing for me is the security aspects, does anyone have any reservations in this regard. I've been running it since the beginning of February, John, (I'm up to 1931!) and I've had no problems - IMHO, I don't think there are any security implications. The whole thing just rumbles quietly away in the background but it does make excrutiatingly slow progress. And I'm not yet anywhere near the point where my model's likely to show anywhere accountably frazzling or freezing yet. - Tom. |

Thanks everyone,
Set it up this morning. Have to say that when the computer is not being used, the fan noise gets on my t*ts. So project suspended until I figure out how to limit cpu capacity. Cheers John DH |

I did have it running for about a couple of weeks, but found it was capturing too much of my capacity and not releasing it properly. Have ditched it now and the system is back to normal. Shame really, but some of the work I do is quite intensive and found this
experiment does get in the way. When I get an idle moment or two, I'll see if I can throttle it back. John ... I'm running it in parallel with the SETI project on a PC that's on all the
time, and have no problems. It appeared to be doing 2 different work units at the same time, at first, but the earlier one mysteriously disappeared, so the date achieved went back a few years ! No idea why... |
