Currently basking in hazy sunshine here with the temperature having soared
to 23บC. Today will now have the highest maximum of the month. Dew point around 16.5บC, so it's rather humid. A mixture of Cirrus and cirrostratus in the eastern half of the sky. But in the west, these layers become progressively more dense. And recently an altostratus shelf has formed underneath with some ragged Cumulus developing into the bargain. The western horizon looks rather fiery. I imagine the higher than forecast temps and dew point will help trigger fireworks soon as the developing cloud trundles slowly east. Sitting at the northern end of the line of cloud which can be traced down to
the Irish sea, through Wales and Cornwall atm. No thundery activity at this end though. Looks to be plenty of rainfall hanging above us, but not reaching the ground. The line may become thundery up here as it moves further east. My attention now switches to the temporarily clearing skies in the west. Radar and sferics now showing much activity heading our way from Northern Ireland. Hi Alex Yes, there is quite intense convective activity here right now over counties Tyrone and L'Derry, with lightning and thunder, as well as heavy rain. It seems to be moving to the NNE. -- Mike 55.13ฐN 6.69ฐW Coleraine posted to uk.sci.weather 31/08/2005 11:55:27 UTC |

19 C thick and cloudy at Aberfeldy 1300. My screen is covered in tiny
thunder flies (?) never a good sign. The radar is showing some rather odd lines of showers at the moment that seem to stretch for hundreds of miles but are about 30 miles thick. The N Ireland storms seem to moving up on a very rigid NNE line that runs with the Great Glen fault. brian aberfeldy "Alex Stephens Jr" wrote in message k... Skies becoming very hazy now, a dense layer of Ci is evident though, and a new encroaching shelf of As to the south west. Temperature still warm at 22บC 69%RH in very light winds. Best bet for T'storms in this area now is some home grown ones bourne out of instability over the Southern uplands later this afternoon. Chances are still high I reckon. Alex. |

![]() Just returned from a trip to Glasgow. On the way in, the temperature near the airport was 25ฐC (by the car thermometer) and on the return, two hours later it had dropped to 18ฐC in heavy rain. Currently, raining heavily here in deep gloom, poor visibility and with a very threatening sky to the north. Rainfall is 10.4 mm since about 16:00z and temperature is now 16.7ฐC. -- Alan White Twenty-eight miles NW of Glasgow, overlooking Loch Goil and Loch Long in Argyll, Scotland.
