When I was growing up (in Luton), 70ºF was
commonly and conventionally regarded as the beginning of "warm" weather. Nowadays I find anything above 21ºC uncomfortably warm ... but that's a different story, and not where I want to go here. 20 minutes with the old record books produced the following statistic - the longest period of consecutive days each summer with a maximum of at least 21ºC (i.e. 70ºF) ... the earlier years are taken from the official climat. station located about 400m from our back garden where the rest of the readings were taken: 1954 5 1955 13 1956 4 1957 12 1958 6 1959 12 1960 7 1961 10 1962 3 1963 7 1964 20 1965 10 1966 6 1967 13 1968 5 1969 13 1970 9 1971 10 1972 9 1973 12 1974 4 1975 27 1976 25 1977 7 1978 9 1979 7 1980 8 1981 10 1982 12 1983 18 1984 24 1985 6 1986 10 1987 14 1988 6 1989 17 1990 26 1991 12 1992 14 1993 8 1994 21 1995 23 1996 8 1997 20 1998 9 1999 19 2000 14 2001 15 2002 10 2003 23 2004 31 unfinished Philip Eden Luton 113m |
