![]() WARNING: THIS IS *NOT* A NAKED-EYE EVENT! YOU NEED EITHER AN INDIRECT VIEWING METHOD, OR APPROVED FILTERS - SUNGLASSES ARE *NOT* SAFE. For more details see:- http://www.transitofvenus2004.org.uk/ and more generally:- http://www.britastro.org/main/ Unless otherwise noted below, the discussion is based on products available via:- http://www.wetterzentrale.de/topkarten/ ********** we're at a very early stage: the forecast undoubtedly WILL change, so don't go booking hotels or cancelling meetings etc. on the basis of what is written below! ********** Forecast discussion: 2004 transit of Venus Verifying: 2004 June 08 up to ~midday 2004 May 24: D-15: GFS Synoptic: L ... Norwegian Sea (slow-moving) L ... Channel (filling) H ... northwest of Scotland (intensifying) Run-to-run evolution: N/A Inference: Northern Britain & much of Ireland - influenced by High / upper ridge - should mean either well broken or small amounts cloud. Southern / central Britain (including at first much of northern England) - large areas cloud/rain etc., slowly thinning from north, but poor prospect for Wales/South. Northern France / Low Countries - broken cloud - showery, but should slowly improve from west as low moves east - might leave a legacy of low cloud/mist coastal locations. SW Norway looks OK on this early chart with cold air/broken cloud - scattered showers etc. -- FAQ & Glossary for uk.sci.weather at:- http://homepage.ntlworld.com/booty.weather/uswfaqfr.htm |
