Default West Cornwall - Near record sunshine for the 1st 10 days of July.

Approx 120 hours of sunshine 1st-10th over the nearby moors at Bosullow.

Given that it's been sunnier right on the coast just how much sunshinw have the beaches seen. Certainly around 125 hours, or 12.5 hours a day! If anybody has the old sunshine records for Penzance I'd be very interested. Today has started with plenty of low cloud offshore, some Cu over the land by 09:00, but coasts are sunny.

Forecast to cloud over, but currently lovely

Also, given that the week 12th-18th of June was fairly cloudy, there is a fair chance of the 30 day running sunshine total hitting 300 hours.

Not quite as sunny here Graham, a bit more cumulus build up when the
wind is blowing off the land and we also haven't had many strong sea
breezes to clear the sky.

Still, it has been sunnier than normal and another day with over 11
hours of sunshine brings the total so far (up to the 12th) to 131 hours
for this July.

The persistent warmth of the days rather than any actual hot days has
been notable:

July maximums
1 22.4C
2 23.6C
3 22.8C
4 24.6C
5 26.1C
6 27.7C
7 24.5C
8 23.3C
9 25.6C
10 24.9C
11 24.4C
12 24.9C

The lawns are now straw. No rain since the 20th June. Rolling average
for the last 30 days is 240 hours. Nothing out of the ordinary there,
unlike for you Graham with your 300 hours.

Bit more cloud of late, so hasn't quite reached 300 yet, probably around 285 hours at the end of today.

From the Cove Diary for Thursday
"the clouds that were supposed to be building, stalwartly refused to come any further than the cliffs to the east of us"
The story of the summer.

If only there was a sunshine recorder on the coast. Bosullow does a good deal better than Camborne in Summer (but worse in winter when it's frequently up in the cloud) but nothing like the immediate coast, where I think there could have been a staggering amount of sunshine the last 30 days.

I've been offered a CS sunshine recorder for free, but have nowhere to put it. I'm going to have to get something sorted.
