Default west Cornwall 69 hours of sun in the last 4 days.

.. . and that's up over the moors at Bosullow, where the 30 day running total has just topped 250 hours for the 1st time this year. http://www.greatbosullow.net/

It was good to have a much lighter wind today. Also, after several days of near flat conditions, some good surf at last, which arrived just as the wind decreased, so it was pretty clean on the north coast.

Cannot beat that glorious total, only 57.3 hours for the 4 days (12th -
15th). I've never recorded more than 95% of the total possible due to
hills to the east and west chopping off a bit of early and late sunshine.

My 30 day total (16th April to 15th May) is at an impressive 264 hours,
such was the sunny nature of the second half of April and it has been a
sunny two weeks this May so far.

Even with the hazy skies today, still managed 9 hours of sunshine but
very different from the pristine blue skies of the last few days.

By our standards it's been a very sunny spell too. Tideswell total from
16th Apr to 15th May is 133 hours, almost exactly 50% of your total,
Nick!

Thanks for that Norman. Glad you've been getting some sunshine too!
Though I know you're not a great fan of the bright stuff if it gets too
warm.

This recent sunny spell has been unusual for its low(ish) day maximums
despite the strong, unbroken sunshine. With the sun's elevation now
around 60°, the day temperature failed to get anywhere above 18C. Still,
it made for a beautiful spell of weather and that 'tropical' intensity
sunshine showed off the vivid green of the countryside like never before.

My sunniest 'short' spell was last year when I recorded 107.2 hours of
sunshine for the 7 days from the 24th to the 30th June. July 2013 came
close but never quite made it though that month holds the record for 18
consecutive days of unbroken sunshine. I've come nowhere near that
record since.

Yes, it has been a bit on the warm side. Max temps were

12th: 17.4
13th: 19.4
14th: 20.3
15th: 20.0
16th: 16.1

Looking forward now to the cooler weather that seems likely to be on
offer.

Apart from today, one notable feature of the past few days has been the
extensive cirrus that has resulted from persistent contrails. We can't
keep on messing with the atmosphere like this indefinitely and not
expect serious consequences.
