Well, after a record cold February day a min of -4.3C last night, a new March record (since 1991) Currently (09:00) -3.5C and snowing - light to moderate.
A record breakingly cold west Cornwall -4C as we approach mid morning just inland http://www.greatbosullow.net/ Anywhere west of Penzance (OK, there isn't much west of Penzance) is hard to get to, the Lands End peninsula got the heaviest of yesterdays snow. SCilly is used to getting cut off in winter, but not due to a snowbound Lands End airport. Cape Cornwall in the far west (near St Just) https://metrouk2.files.wordpress.com...0&h=408&crop=1 At least the press got as far as the Lizard, and watched someone doing donuts in the snow on a quad bike, which looked fun. Basically no buses from Penzance, no trains to St Ives either. In theory the main line is open. The snow has compacted a fair bit overnight, and blown around rather. Still a general depth of 10cm in my garden. This afternoon looks interesting, though it'll probably turn to rain here eventually. Graham Penzance |

Graham Penzance Just been out to the Coop on the prom to get some milk. It took 3 attempts to get up the gentle slope onto the main road. Anyway, apart from it currently being around -4C in Penzance, the lowest temperature at this time of day certainly since 1987, the prom is amazing. With the strong E wind the sea's been coming over and creating a sheet of ice, despite the freezing point of sea water being around -2C. The railings have huge icicles hanging. I did consider stopping to take a photo, but with a F5 wind & -4C, I couldn't be bothered! The coast path between Penzance & Marazion yesterday afternoon https://www.cornwalllive.com/incomin...10b/pzsnow.jpg All very similar to Jan '87 down here temperature wise. Not the same amount of snow though, at least - not yet. Graham Penzance |
