The first impact is the late report as telephone and internet have been out until now, since storms on Friday evening/overnight.
The second and slightly more impactful, was turning on the tap on 9 September, with no water to be seen. The spring which feeds the reservoir which supplies quite a few local communities, had dried up. Fortunately the mayor arrived in the afternoon with two 1 litre bottles of water for us! The water returned in the evening, a separate spring was diverted, but we are still having to boil the water. A warm, sunny month, with the end of the drought finally. Rainfall about average for the month. Nights are cooling down, but no air frost yet, which usually occurs last week of September, though one was recorded locally on 27th. Recording day 0000 - 2359 Mean Max = 22.5 Mean Min = 9.1 Mean = 15.9 High Max = 30.4c, 12th Low Max = 11.6c, 18th High Min = 17.3c, 13th Low Min = 3.3c, 27th Rain Total = 79.2mm Wettest = 53.8mm, 14th Rain days = 10 Days with Thunder = 1, 30th Days with Hail = 0 Sleet/snow falling = 0 Days with Snow Lying 50% at 0900 = 0 Max Snow Depth at 0900 = 0 Days with Fog at 0900 = Wind Mean = 0.9mph Max Gust = 12mph High Pressure = 1029.4 Low Pressure = 1008.5 Mean Pressure = 1018.8 DM. 740m. La Moratille. Correze. France. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Still drought here. Our massive reservoir getting very low and I fear it will need some serious winter rain to top up before next summer. No problem with the water supply here though of course. Dave, S.Essex --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus It's quite an issue Dave. When rain arrives here, it seems to come one day at a time with 2 inches of the stuff, which is what happened last Friday/Saturday. I was looking at some of the lakes and reservoirs here, with their blossoming populations of islands, thinking the same thoughts as you. No rain in the forecast here for a while yet and the way patterns have been and seem to be developing, I'm wondering whether it will be a dry winter and what the consequences might be. |
