I reckon we got off fairly lightly here. Rain started at 3.30am with
5.1mm in half an hour, maximum rate 21.6mm/hr. Started again at 6am, and
rained continuously till 3pm, max rates 9.9mm/hr at 7.30 and 6mm/hr at
12.30. In total it amounted to 25.5mm, just about half a month's supply
in 12 hours. Steady temperature drop throughout from 20C at midnight to
13.5C at noon. Took the dog out at 4.30pm in bright sunshine and a
sizzling 18C. It's now a decidedly chilly 12.7C.

Of the 25,000,000 litres of water that fell onto the catchment area
north of here, none has yet appeared in the brook at the bottom of the
estate. 5 years ago, a storm like that would have resulted in a raging
torrent over 4 feet deep rushing down that brook and flooding the
adjacent woodland. Current depth is less than 3 inches. Just shows how
dry the ground is.

Got off even lighter in Raunds. Just 7.1mm.
Enjoyed just how cool and fresh it felt in the afternoon.
Pleasant after the frontal cloud cleared at 4pm.
Nice change from recent humid warmth.

I was watching the radar at 3am, and the rain for this area spread from
Milton Keynes almost up to Kettering, in quite a narrow band not even
reaching across to Wellingborough, with heaviest rainfall just north of
my location. We missed the bulk of the thunder with just one almighty
crash up at Sywell. The REAL rain was across Dorset, Wiltshire,
Berkshire and Surrey with smaller pockets in the north-east, and a
massive area across most of Scotland. So I guess you missed the first
episode which dropped about 5mm here. What happened later on, I don't
know because I was fast asleep till 11am, then out of the house till 4pm.

Everybody I've seen this afternoon is well ****ed off because of the
rail troubles at Watford, meaning that once again there will be no
trains south out of Northampton till at least Monday morning, and that
is well doubtful because of the damage to the embankment and track.
Could take till the middle of the week to sort it all out.

Yes, once the front cleared, it was a lovely afternoon without the
oppressive temperatures we have had recently. Surprising how much blue
sky was up there after all that rain. The dog enjoyed it, after having
to spend so many days of that heat being kept at a slow pace, and must
have run at least four miles on the end of her rope - still too
unpredictable and boisterous to be let off the lead yet; that will
probably not be for another year or so. My fault for getting a dog that
has had no initial training when she was a puppy.

Pleasantly cool tonight (12.1C at the moment), so I just might get a
decent night's sleep, and that'll make a change.

I didn't get the chance to watch live on radar, managed a rare early night.
Looking at radar loop think we both got of lightly. Seen some data for NE Northants with less than 3mm.
Good luck with the dog training, at least you'll have more success than my attempts to train my Cats!
Muffin still likes to lie next to, or on my grass min bulb. Have chicken wire over it now.
Overcast 13.3C/11.6C currently. Feeling Autumnal

Tazzy is Border Collie number five (in 36 years) and lives up to the
breed's name. She, like BC3, spends most of the time digging up or lying
on the borders!!! Didn't think cats could be trained anyway, so good
luck with that one.

You can train cats not to poo in the house but little else. If you said to a cat "Sit" it would just roll its eyes. This is what I like about them, their haughty indifference.

Willow is the grand old age of 22 now. Like other cats other than do your business outside I have never tried to train her. Impossible with cats.
She still comes out at 09 obs with me every day, and deems herself cheif observer.

Currently 17.5/13.4/ Sunny spells.

I trained my cat to sit and give me his paw. He would also fetch a ball.
For some strange reason I never really fathomed out, he would go where I
pointed to.

I taught him to leave the dining room when we were eating (he used to
scrounge for food) then he would come back in as soon as we'd finished.

Methinks cats can be trained to do tricks etc, just watch this:

Thanks for the link, amusing. You've done well with your cat. Perhaps I need more patience.
Given up with Willow now,at 22 shes too old to learn new tricks.
My 2 younger cats have always looked at me with such disdain during any attempts to train them.
I don't doubt the intelligence of cats, I love their haughty indifference
opposed to canine eagarness to please.

Currently 14C/12C
