UV reached 8.0 today which was a bit of surprise given the crystal clear
conditions and airmass type. UV for the last few days: 2nd 8.9 3rd 7.7 4th 8.2 5th 8.3 6th 8.2 7th 8.0 I would have expected today a UV in the high 6s or low 7s but then again, the sun now reaches over 62° in elevation as we approach the summer solstice in a couple of weeks. A maximum of 21.7C this afternoon and with hardly a breeze it felt quite warm despite the low humidity. Even the wife ventured out for a spot of sunbathing (she wouldn't normally expose any flesh to the air unless the temperature is at least 25C with a DP of 15C). Dare I say it, we could do with a drop of rain. Having to water the garden and the butts are getting low. Only 12.6 mm in the last 24 days and most of that was just dust dampening stuff. It looks as if there is going to be another bumper crop of apples, cherries, plums, grapes and figs this year. Even the toms in the veggie plot are doing well despite the cold nights and the first trusses are in flower. The runners and French beans have reached the tops of their canes and have their first set of flowers. -- Nick Gardner Otter Valley, Devon 20 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |
