75% of Union members who voted in a recent indicative poll are in favour of
a strike over low pay. The Union are now about to conduct a full postal ballot with a decision to strike or not in January. Go for it guys and good luck! They are so well off compared to most other sections of society. Try picking for Amazon in a warehouse on minimum wage and minimum conditions. It's people like that who should be striking, but they realise they are fortunate to have a job. Any job. They do qualify for a pension, but contributing 4% of their income leaves them with 4% less than the minimum wage and they have lives to live. Be thankful, if you work for the MetO that you have a very well-paid and well-respected job*. *Caveat. I support the work of the MetO and have done many times, only criticising when I feel criticism is necessary, especially when idiots like larry try to criticise them from a position of no information and global warming denial, but to strike for more pay will get them no sympathy whatsoever and will fail. Watch. |

Ben It's people like that who should be striking, but they realise they are fortunate to have a job. Any job. The problem with that attitude, which is one that the economic right which are in control of all the main parties - particularly the Tories, but also the others to quite a degree, sadly - are constantly shoving down the throat, is it spreads an attitude that it's ok to have poor terms and conditions at work because you need to be "thankful you have a job". That is an extremely poor attitude to take. Having decent terms in your job is seen by the economic right which make up the vast majority of the political establishment as an unaffordable luxury, or something. If this attitude carrie |

I agree that low-paid workers have a *particular* reason for striking, but *anyone* (within reason) should be able to if their own terms and conditions are deteriorating. There is too much of this right-wing "everyone has to work harder for less pay and less benefits" crap going round in today's society, which is more Thatcherite than the 1980s ever were. |
