A chilly start this morning but no air or grass frost (air min 2.9°C;
grass min 1.3°C). A max today of 12.1°C makes it the lowest day
temperature since the 13th April (11.0°C).

Despite a very sunny start, sunshine up to today hasn't been that
abundant with a total of 86 hours. It is unlikely this month will be as
sunny as October 2010 (165 hours), but the compensation is that it has
been much warmer with a mean temperature currently at 14.4°C.

2008 was a cold one, and ended with the 'Great Ottery Hailstorm', a
storm still talked about around here, and one by which all other

And what a dry October this has been so far with 6.7 mm of rain. For the
last 6 years, October (average 101 mm) has been very much a contrast
month to the relative dryness of September (average 40 mm).
