As some of you may know he had lung cancer and although he had one lung removed, followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy last year, another tumour had developed fairly recently. This had caused swallowing and breathing problems and a week or so ago, he had a stent put in his throat to ease the pressure and help his breathing. Sadly, after this he developed pneumonia and it proved too much for him. He died on Tuesday, his family all with him at the time. So sorry to hear about Mike this morning; we cremated my father on Thursday so I can truly empathise with Mike's family for the grief they must be feeling. His connections with Coventry meant that he often sent me his experiences of our local region. The death of his first wife caused much grief on this newsgroup, his subsequent happiness at a new life uplifted us all, but now this! It comes to us all. but much too soon for some. Cheers Mike, it was a pleasure 'knowing' you. Steve Jackson Bablake Weather Station Coventry UK www.bablakeweather.co.uk |

I am not usually subscribed to this group these days but will pass on any messages to the family from here or if anyone wishes to email me. One of my first encounters on this newsgroup was with Mike, sad to hear he's gone. Sincerest condolences to his family. Apologies for lateness, I don't look in very often these days. Les |

I remember Mike's daily postings on the Winter of 1962-63 in a sequence that spanned a winter a number of years ago. That was an absolutely fascinating account and remembered with great affection. Really sad to hear the news of Mike's passing. Steve Graham |

This is very sad news. I have been away and only just read this. Mike was
one of the more sensible and level-headed posters on here, to say nothing of intelligent, and his posts were always worth reading. Cancer is a scourge which has taken off many good people before their time. It was a mercy that he had family with him at the end. Please convey my deepest condolences to them. It's a sad loss for them and for us all in the group. Ian Bingham. Inchmarlo, Aberdeenshire. "Linda B" wrote in message .. . I am so very sad to tell you that Mike died on Tuesday. I spent a little time with Mike at his caravan in Donegal the year after Wendy died. He was an interesting man and I would have liked to get to know him better. I'm pleased that I did get the opportunity to meet him. -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. This is very sad news. Though I didn't meet Mike I always appreciated his knowledge and insight on this newsgroup. My thoughts are with his family. Rest in peace, Mike |

As someone who regularly "lurks" but very rarely posts, I can only say how sorry I am to hear this. A well respected member of the group, I always enjoyed reading Mikes posts along with those of a few other regulars. Many years ago, I had a vey interesting online discussion with Mike on atmospheric physics issues on another science based newsgroup. Please pass on my condolences along with all the others to his family. |
