A cloudless, breezy day with the SSE wind enhanced by the sea breeze this
afternoon and gusting to between 20 mph & 25 mph at times. This kept the temperature pegged back to an agreeable 23.0°C max, though it didn't stop that sun being too hot to sit out in despite the 'coolish' temperature and low humidity. The sunshine recorder switched on at 05:29 this morning, making this a contender for the most sunshine in one day record since I started recording sunshine in December 2006. The record is currently held by 31st March 2009 with 15.7 hours. The lack of calm, hot & humid days so far has prevented the SST from rising much, much like 2008 but unlike this time last year. The nearby inshore SST for the last 2 years on the 3rd of June a 2008 13.5°C 2009 18.3°C 2010 13.8°C. But even given these temperatures, the sea felt warm enough to have a swim in and plenty of people were. I may chance it tomorrow...... (20:00), 19.6°C, RH 40%, DP 5.7°C, 1019 hPa (F), Wind 10 mph SE. _____________________ Nick Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http://www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Max. a very pleasant +17.0C here in Haytor with loads of sunshine. I would
hardly call 23C coolish Nick, that would be a very warm July day here! Will -- "Nick Gardner" wrote in message ... Even Copley would be struggling to have 15.7hr in March (;0) 16.2hr here yesterday. All the best Ken Copley, Teesdale |

Would have been 'interesting' to have recorded that much sunshine at the end of March! That's around 3 hours more than the sun is above the horizon..... In the end I didn't beat my record yesterday, there was a bit of cloud to the west that blocked out the sun 30 minutes before sunset. ______________________ Nick Otter Valley, Devon 83 m amsl http:\\www.ottervalley.co.uk |

Not even that today, but much hazier. Patchy sea fog on the north coast, apparently a freak phenomenum http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-sto...5875-22307911/ (Porthmeor St Ives) Cornwalls obviously the place for freak weather, regulart freak fog, and all drownings are down to freak waves. One thing I always find interesting is that North Sea haar is virtually always so cold, whilst as you can see from the pic, it wasn't cold even in the fog. I remember being at Sheringham in sea fog, late June, and have rarely felt so cold. Some more pics of freak sea fog at http://www.easterling.freeserve.co.uk/wpage6.html. Graham Penzance |

It came & went a few times over a couple of hours. There's a pic of recent sea fog at Sennen at http://www.easterling.freeserve.co.uk/fog.html (Weds AM) Cliffs 300' high, top of fog bank 200' or so. Still pretty warm & sunny at beach level, but very limited horizontal visibility. Graham |
