A brief summary of the climate statistics for Summer 2003 in Coventry

· This has been the warmest Summer in the city since 1995 (17.9C).
· With records dating back to 1892, only 2 summers have ever been
warmer than 2003, with both 1911 and 1995 recording 17.9C.
· 73 days out of 92 summer days could be classified as 'warm' with
maximum temperatures of 20C or over.
· Only 5 summers have recorded more warm days than 2003, namely
1893 (78), 1899, 1975, 1976 (all 75).
· 17 days can be classified as 'very warm' with maxima above 26C,
though this is well below that figure for 1976 which recorded 31 such
days.
· There were 4 'hot' days, recording maxima over 30C, during
summer 2003, again well below 1976 (13).
· Although the sunshine total was only 4% above the 30-year
climatological normal for the city, it was still the sunniest summer
since 1999 (586.2hr).
· It was the driest summer since 2000 (104.6mm).
