Okay we had quite a dollop in the SE, but temps seem higher then
forcast and the persistant snow [redicted for tonight looks strangely absent on the radar and rainfall pattern UKMO. They've been predicting this all day and usual the forecast even at such short notice is pretty poor. The main event I thought was scheduled for this evening with last night persistent heavy showers just being that. The BBC and all other weather warnings spoke of another 15cm to add on to last nights accumulation -looks like fine sleet to me at present. |

Even at 11Z we were advised of a moderate snow period for this evening, but this seems to have faded in the last 6 hours. Phil |

Phil The radar showed it was a close run thing for Heathrow with the heavier outbreaks just to the NE, Phil. Luton continues to fluctuate between light and moderate snow but ice is now likely to become an increasing issue down your way. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/...ngs.html?day=1 Jon. |

Last night's forecast for the overnight snow was extremely good given the difficulty in forecasting snow events. Just balancing the argument... Richard I felt the main event was further north, in Southend I woke up to about 2", at Chelmsford there was 6". A number of Schools are shut tomorrow, and even my Wifes one is now shut, and they were open today. I could have told them this morning it was going to turn to rain this evening and temperatures would rise. I can only think that there isn't a dedicated central point for Schools to determine what the weather forecast is and make a sound decision. Nothing will ever be perfectly right (we could mutter about regional Met Offices closing) but by-and-large in terms of predicting the event and the main area of worry, I don't think there can be many gripes. As an aside - I'd be interested to try and re-simulate the event to see how Surrey got such a pasting. Richard |
