I've got a WS2310, but positioning of sensors etc.. isn't necessarily
dependant on the weather station. Post the questions here and the
answers may benefit more people!

Please do! I'm going to get a WS2300 or WS2307 (i think they are
basically the same?) soon and would be interested in any comments on
software etc..

Well... my 2p worth - I've had mine for a few months now and I'm happy with
it's performance (for a budget WS).

Things to watch; update rate and accuracy of wind sensor - I've seen other
comments on this and I'm sure mine underreads but the sensor isn't in that
great a position at the moment....
Screening - the standard sensor isn't really up to direct sun so a screen is
a must.
Wired mode - can be affected by RFI and give strange wind readings so if you
go for the wired mode then it's advisable to upgrade the cabling to screened
Cat 5 or similar.

Software - I have started to use Weather Display
http://www.weather-display.com/index.php although you need to be a little
patient when setting up all the various data tx/ftp settings etc...

OK - well Im looking at the 2300 simply because it is £20-30 cheaper
than the 2307 and really will be using the PC interface.
The both seem to have the same sensors.

Now I am looking to place the sensords down the garden, away from the
house. The corner of the garage seems the best bet. It is 10' away
from the house and 10' in the air.

The side i would attach the sensors to is South facing.
The rain sensor - would this be ok just to screw directly onto the
roof ? (obviously sealing the holes im going to make.)

One immediate problem I can see with putting the rain sensor on the roof is
that it'll under read....

Thinking about it, ISTR there's a section in the FAQ about sensors -

Great, thanks for your help there. Certainly a good starting point.

A couple of questions arise, even after reading the FAQ.

What is a screen, for the thermometer?

If on the corner of the roof is not appropriate for a rain sensor,
where has anyone else put their sensors?

.... there is an image of a 'standard' thermometer screen there (and some
notes), but others use different patterns and will advise no doubt. I
built my own, but you can purchase them, either complete or in kit form:
they tend to be expensive (low demand), particularly if you go for the
fibre glass type.

On a side issue, it's never a good idea to use a genuine email address
on usenet - that's a good way to get flooded with spam - as I learned to
my cost.

That's why I use a throwaway email address, such as the one on this
post, that can be manually input for genuine replies.
