at Portsmouth. The forecast of more average weather at times next week may

October is currently about 1.5° warmer than 2005, which was in turn about 1°
warmer than 2004.

The year to end of September temperatures for 2006 and 2005 reveal only a small
difference however, so nothing crazy here (one's self excluded of course).

Step changes of this kind (circa 1 deg. C per year) are of serious
interest if part of a consistent trend (highly uncertain).

24-hr mean in S. Devon (S. Hams) currently 13.7 deg. C (+2.6 C anomaly
from 1971-2000 eLTA). This is I believe exceptional, though we do live
in truly unprecedented times.

A report on "Landward" on tv apparently stated just now that Scotland is +2°
compared with the "average October".
It seems likely to remain so to the end of the month.

It is not raining at the moment - only one zero day so far this month so another
would be nice.

I wonder if I will make it to November without having to put the heating on.
It will be a first if so.
