Since the first falls of snow in September, Whistler, a ski resort in the
Canadian Rockies two hours by car from Vancouver, at a modest village height of 630m asl, has seen 545cm of snow this season so far. Admittedly these snow amounts are measured at mid-station, 1650m asl, with 174cm falling there in the last 7 days. http://tinyurl.com/9fnem A photo from yesterday This is a beautiful place to visit and I can highly recommend a trip there. If not and you have a few hours to spare, take a look through the photo gallery - http://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/wea...lery/index.htm Regards, Joe |

The village was quite pretentious and Disneyland-esque, but the surroundings were quite nice. Better still, head a few hours east and visit the Rockies proper between Jasper and Banff. We had snow at the end of May while we were at Peyto Lake. http://www.jstottphotography.com/index.php?p=0&c=48&o=3 -- Jonathan Stott Canterbury Weather: http://www.canterburyweather.co.uk/ Reverse my e-mail address to reply by e-mail |

i was lucky enough to enjoy a couple of weeks snowboarding there in january
04. the low altitude and proximity to the pacific means that the weather there is very unlike that in the alps. in the 2 weeks, we had one sunny day overcast like england in january the rest of the time. the first week it rained in the village, and often a lot higher to the top of the mountain, even at glacier level. in the second week it was considerably colder and snowed instead - a lot. upto 40cm overnight in the village, more on the mountain, about a 1m in a week. incredible. but if you go there expecting guaranteed snow, just look at last winters stats. http://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/wea...tats/index.htm to get some idea of what the weather was like, imagine if the Pennines were 2400m high. normally blowing at 60-70kph in a whiteout at the top. often raining at the village level. if you like snow and don't mind getting wet, you'll love it. if you like having a coffee and topping up your tan on the sun balcony, forget it. a.
