Hello,
I was just laying here wondering about silly non-sense when a couple thoughts came to me that requires an answer, so here I am. 1. At what rate can the average soil & terrain sustain a continuous uninterrupted rainfall without danger of flooding ? e.g. 7 inches per year is too little and 1 inch per hour is too much. 2. If a sizable asteroid hit the Earth and vaporized a significant amount of the ocean could there possibly be a continuous rain for months or years at a time while the water is condensing out of the air ? e.g. there was a period in Earths geologic history called the great discontinuity, or something like that, where the landmasses were eroded down to about sea level, if it was caused by rain such rain might have been continuous or very frequent. There was a Science Fiction called the Illustrated Man which was a series of small stories and in one of the stories there were some astronauts who landed on a planet with continuous rainfall. All answers addressing these two issues are welcome whether serious or not. gmv |
