Granted the pattern is now blah and inactive but the fat lady hasn't even
warmed up her vocal cords yet for the 11 o'clock number -- here in Western PA at least. We've had enough freeze-thaw cycles and received enough recent "slopstorms" to have some VERY big problems with built-up ice. With the lack of any real January or February thaw to clear things off, the situation is getting quite bad on some sidewalks, driveways, side streets, etc. People are sustaining bad falls, consumer salt/sand is virtually impossible to find, on the municipal level many communities have far exceeded their snow/ice removal budget for all of 2004 (which includes money budgeted for next Nov-Dec.) Worst ice and longest lasting I can remember in my lifetime. My own farm lane and walkway to our barn is like someone drove a Zamboni on it. Temps last couple of days were in the upper 30's - low 40'sF which barely made a dent and all will freeze again over the weekend with temps as low as 2F predicted. We clear it off as best we can (or apply sand or even hay) then the next meltdown freezes into another 2" of glare ice. OK, "youn's guys", if there are any real Mets or good amateur Mets on here -- How about enough warmth for western PA (east of Pittsburgh) to see melt of this built-up ice in the forseeable future? Anything on the horizon? And what meteorological conditions will have to occur to permit same?
