Had a touch of frost here in Shrewsbury, ice on the car and also on the
grass. Warmed quickly once the sun came up.

I wouldn't think it was as cold as 12-13 May 1995 when the frost was
still visible on the lawn at 9am.

My records before 1999 are still on paper and safely packed away ready for
the move so I am trying to make an educated guess that it 'probably' is one
of the coldest May nights I have recorded, going on my records back to 1999.

Interesting about 12-13 May 1995. I don't personally remember any serious
frosts at that time but I will check my records when I get them unpacked. It
does encourage me that the summer of 1995 turned out to be the hottest I
have recorded; hopefully history could repeat itself.......we'll see!

I remember them coming as a real shock after the previous week, when
temperatures had reached the high 20s. It then snowed on the morning of
the 17th.

Here's what Wunderground gives for Shawbury around then:
10/5/95 max13.5/min01.1
11/5/95 09.3/04.5
12/5/95 10.8/-01.0
13/5/95 12.0/-00.6
14/5/95 13.5/-01.9
15/5/95 12.0/04.1
16/5/95 10.2/06.0
17/5/95 07.9/02.3 Events: Rain,Snow

Between 8 May-18 June no day reached 21C.

I often feel I'm the only person who remembers this cool spell that
characterised most of May/June 1995; probably because of the late
June/Jul/Aug that followed and maybe also because there wasn't any
prolonged wet weather- just cool temperatures. Yet everyone who was
around seems to remember early June 1975. I agree that I won't mind
what the weather does for the rest of May if we get a repeat of 1995
afterwards :-)
