The SST anomaly field around southern Africa is remarkable
at the moment with widespread +ve anomalies of 2-5 degC. With the England cricket squad just starting the legitimate part of their tour, there will be closer-than-normal scrutiny of weather events down there during the next few months. It'll be interesting to see what turns up. The last two tours, in 1994-95 and 1999-2000 were badly disrupted by rain which appears to be heaviest during non-ElNino summers (of which this is another).
