Default 3 forecasts now suggest a cold snap

I am not taking any clips from anyone here. However, TWO, Metcheck and the
BBC are in agreement here. Darren Prescott's runs are pointing in that
direction also. I think we will get something. It is ages since we last had
a cold spell in November.

We had sledging snow on 8th November here, in the last 6 years. I think it
must have been 2000 or before, because I don't have the record anymore. I
remember the date though, but not before 1998 as that's when we moved here.

The 27th November 2001 was the last time snow fell here in November, since
then, Octobers have produced 3 incidences of falling snow but naught in
November.
A quick look through my records throws up a surprising statistic;
The last time we had snow lying in November here was in 1998, the 17th to be
exact.
Didn't realise it was as far back as six years ago!
And the last time there was significant (slegdable) snow in November was
back in 1996, attaining the dizzy depths of 14cm.
On 7 days that month there was snow lying at 9am.
I don't think this week we'll see anything significant here, it would be
nice to be wrong though.
Alex.

Snow? What's that?

We did actually get fine snowy ice crystals falling out of a clear sky
with the temperature at 2.8C on Saturday evening here. I'm not sure if
that counts as proper snow, though.

That's usually all we can hope for around here, whether it is classified
as snow or not!!

I recall it taking me over three hours to drive from near Oxford to
Reading in earlier this year because of the snow. The M40 was blocked
at Stokenchurch, the B480 at Howe Wood, the A4074 near Woodcote and the
A4130 was solid Northbound but passable Southbound to Nettlebed.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/h...et/3440263.stm has a
report.

Snow is great fun when you don't _need_ to get from A to B in it.

Temporary cold spells are common in November, and lead to no indication
(IMHO) to the following winter.
Probably the reverse. I am getting old and tired. I have pushed out
mild winter forecasts for the last six years. Nearly all correct - As I
have said before - I am sick of it!
No winter forecast from me this year - read into that what you will.
Cheers
Paul.
