Default Met Office Rainfall Radar

I notice as part of the revamp to the Met Office website they are now giving 30 min radar images.
Another step in the right direction, well done.
Regional radar next maybe?

...and typically there's hardly a drop of rain to be seen :-)

Also improved satellite imagery :-

It is good to see that they have responded to feedback they have received. I
certainly made the point at the time that better information was available
from other sources (e.g. Wetterzenttale and other websites) and it appears
that this was the predominant opinion.

I hope that further improvements will be seen in the near future.

Alan

I run a script to view the images on a full IE web page - author was
someone on the group - but it doesn't seem to recognise the 30 minute
gifs, I have checked the web site image id's and they seem to be the
same as the script but I still can only get hourly ones. Anyone in the
know care to suggest a solution?

.... check the url's in the script ... you'll find that the url for the
30-min imagery is subtly different: you'll need to amend your script
accordingly.

Ah! Got it now - took a moment for the penny to drop. Thanks Martin. The
only remaining oddity is that the LATEST appears to be 30 minutes behind
the most up to date image.

Thanks again,
James

An upgrade of the Aviation briefing service would also be nice Jon :-)

I notice that if you go to each region under the observed tab it displays
the radar which is a better size than the UK page. Shame it's not every
30mins like the Met Office web site and the southern half of the country
does seem to appear many times.

At least it's a start.

But still the same number of images so it now only goes back 3hrs.

With the 30min interval this might not be a problem but 6hrs allowed
you to see stuff 6 hrs into the past and allowed you to fairly good
guessitmates for arrival time 10 or so hours into the future.

Updates about 20 past the hour, just loaded the page at 2119 and the
most recent image was 2030, not so good. Reload at 2122 and I get the
2100 image.

I've tweaked the code by changing the array size [1] and have it going back
some 6 hours now from my desktop.

Change LastImgNum to 11 and add more FrameNum[]
