Good evening all from Volos, where I just arrived.
Saturday was the warmest day of the week around continental Greece, with temperature maxima up to 38C at Lamia -indeed, Lamia felt quite warm even at sunset, when I drove past it. Athens was slightly cooler (N. Philadelphia 36C, Zografou 34C, Elliniko 32C, Athens AP 35C). However, things should change as of tonight. An upper level trough is digging south into the Balkans and should trigger cyclogenesis over the Aegean, resulting in northerlies as of tomorrow. Thunderstorms have already been reported along the northern border of the country. This could be the first rainy August 15th in Athens (statistically the driest day of the year in downtown Athens) since 1897. Precipitation is generally expected over eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the northern and eastern Aegean and wind prone areas of eastern continental Greece -marginally Athens, too. NB this is an unusual setup for August. Saturday around the olympic cities: Athens (AP): 20-35C Thessaloniki (Mikra): 21-35C Irakleio (AP): 21-31C Patras (Araxos): 21-30C Volos (N. Anchialos): 22-36C Yannis, Volos 29C, Td 21C |
