Default This miserable July: how about some CET figures on the 15th just out of interest.

On Thursday which is the 15th, i.e half way through the month. How about
some CET figures from some of you. I bet this one is turning out to be very
low. As Philip Eden said. The last really cool July was 1988 which was
14.7C. This must be close on that. I have only had 2 days over 21C.

Regards, Gavin.

I wish to apologise to all of you who view my website. Sorry for the lack of
updates, I have not abandoned it. I have been offline for a month due to
technical delays in having my upgrade done. My regular updates will resume
now on :-)

Well here in Bedford Gavin its not as bad as 2000. The first 15 days in that
July managed a mean maximum of just 18.1C. I'm running at 19.6C after the
first 11 days this time.

I'm running about 2.7C below average for the first 12 days. More so on
minima, since I been recording maxima near or above Colin Youngs peak
figure on many days.

Has anyone beaten my 25.3C on the 6th?

I keep reading how miserable the weather's been. It's certainly been
unsettled of late, but between the couple of storms we've had, we are still
getting plenty of sunshine. July 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th & 12th all saw prolonged
sunshine. Yesterday was mainly sunny after 10:00, and very pleasant in the
sea.

In coastal areas of Cornwall May saw 300 hours of sunshine, June around 275
hours (about 120% of normal). In May the average Max. temperature in
Penzance was 3.0 degrees above the 1971-2000 norm. In Ju I recorded a record
number of days (15) when the temperature exceeded 20 degrees, and the sea
temperature at Sevenstones (off Lands' End) reached 17.8, a new record for
June. We also had an absolute drought.

The recent unsettled, generally NW weather pattern is generally preferable
here to misty warm sector air which can be so miserable on the coast.

Gavin Staples.

Cambridge, UK.

Up to the 10th the mean for July is 14.7°C which is 1.7°C below average. The
mean aximum is 20.2°C. Looking at the forecast the average will rise over
the next week as it looks as if some warer air is on its way to the south of
England.

The recent rain has been quite welcome as the garden was starting to look
very dry.

It was running at 14.3 on Sunday, the last time I updated my

I'm feeling just a little 'fragile' at the moment so it'll be a
little longer before
I update again.

Yes - well about... we were on Magerøya (Nordkapp island) from 2nd to 6th
and the temperature got up to about 25C (car thermometer inaccuracies
allowing).

Southerly wind most of the time we were there.

Ok so that's not UK, but nonetheless an interesting contrast!

In the south it has not been as miserable as the media has portayed. I am
confident that by the end of the month July will not be too bad as far as
temperature is concerned and. rainfall too will not be too far from the norm
either.Certainly far better than some of the really chilly Julys of the past
such as 1954 or wet like 1956.
