Default Threads 801-837 of about 115,000 in uk.sci.weather

On the Google database the threads go back to the end of 2002. Was there
a change of server that year?

I was looking to see what was in the threads in the middle of July 1998.

.... not sure how you are using Google, but I have just typed my name in
and found my first post in 1996. There have been changes - Google
absorbed someone else (DejaNews??) so there may be a split at that
point, but I've never had any problem tracing threads - have just typed
in 'thickness' and followed a thread back to 1996.

Martin.

I have it set to show 100 threads and call up the past in 100's. If you
ctr/end and click on "show next 100" you can only go back 8 or 9 times.
I was after the goings on on here around the time of the disasterous
quake that hit PNG in 1998 (July 17.)

By the way put your name in and see whose posts have got mixed up with
yours in the middle on May last year. Remember that patch of multiple
posts when a virus got a lot of servers?

Well, I can only say how I would approach the problem: I use the
'Advanced Groups Search'; leave the 'Find Messages' area blank, select
uk.sci.weather (in the newsgroup dialogue), then set the exact date (or
a small range of dates to avoid too many posts at once) in the 'Return
messages posted between' dialogue. I've just done it for the 17th, 18th
and 19th July, 1998 and retrieved all posts in the threads offered.

Martin.
