![]() "Alan Gardiner" wrote in message ... "martin rowley" wrote in message ... Quite noticeable this morning - many worm casts, first seen for many months on the back lawn (I use the word 'lawn' reluctantly!) The surface of the ground has remained moist after the rain of several days back, helped in the two previous nights by a high dew-fall ('tr' collected in gauge on both mornings) - and the soil temperature 30cm is hovering between 9 and 10degC: presumably encouraged the little blighters to come up and have a look around! Also noted - a couple of butterflies (I think Painted Lady but can't be sure) in the pleasant sunshine of the previous days (none today - chilly, near-overcast). Almost certainly correct about the Painted Lady as I saw one sunning itself yesterday. Alan I know this is an old remark, it was made a month ago, but I was at a friends house this afternoon and noticed their lawn had grown as it has been so mild and there were loads of worm casts. They all looked recent, so much so that I made the comment that it was not possible to give this lawn a final mow as there was so much mud around. I wonder what that means, another mild winter perhaps!? or what I wonder.
