Default West Cornwall Huge powerful swell - As big as anything last winter

Sevenstones - off Lands End
03:00 Swell 3.3ft
09:00 Swell 10.5ft. Largely a short period 'wind' wave.
Then a complete transformation this afternoon as a powerful long period swell arrived.
17:00 Swell 24.6ft. That's very big for mid winter, in fact I don't recall anything bigger last winter.

Some big wave setup surges, the sea surging right up the beach at times, even near low tide. Extremely dangerous conditions.

(Go full screen and compare the size of the waves to the much nearer cars & substantial beach restaurant). This morning the waves were barely big enough to surf.

Gusts 60mph at Lands End.

The Jubilee pool at Penzance had one of it's rare closures due to weather, in fact the 1st time it's been forced to close since re-opening on 6th April. Not just the wind, as approaching the pool entrance along the prom was a bit of an issue. https://www.facebook.com/jubileepool...42635319129400

This afternoon it was a struggle to stand on the prom. Just around the corner, next to the east facing harbour at Hellies Cafe, you could sit outside for a coffee and feel quite warm with bursts of sunshine & 15.5C.

Amazing what a headland can do.

Not much rain here, around 2mm for the event.

Graham
