--------------------------------------------------------------------- 0530z CALM 30km 1Sc040 6Ci250 -01.8/-03.8 1016 RMK: A clear, crisp morning with a frost on the grass. 1630z 35007kt 50km 1Cu030 09.9/01.3 1015 RMK: Broken cloud and sunny periods throughout the day. Lots of showers in the area during the afternoon but only a few spits of rain here. We've had 6.7 hours of sun so far which takes the total for the month so far to 177.6 hours, which makes it probably the sunniest April here since before 1991. The previous sunniest was April last year with a total of 175.0 hours. Is this indicative of a step- change in climate or just a chance random occurrence of two consecutive very sunny Aprils? Only time will tell. Max temp today was 11.4C -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. https://peakdistrictweather.org Twitter: @TideswellWeathr |

Graham (Weston Coyney) Similar pattern here in May. At nearby Bosullow records start 2011, the 3 sunniest Mays were the last 3 years 2020 A quite remarkable (certainly for the top of the moors) 322.8 hours 2019 256.6 2018 227.9 (2011-2020 mean 210.5 hours) The lack of the once prevailing SW winds has resulted in the sand on beaches being moved to unusual spots. What happened to the SW-NW warm front / cold front / ridge sequence we all learned about in 'O' level geography? If things don't get unblocked soon they'll have to re-write the text books! Graham Penzance - where there's been another day of prolonged sunshine Indeed. April this year has been the sunniest, driest and coldest April here since before 1991. To emphasise just how anomalous the weather has been recently, the hottest March day since before 1991 (22.9C on 31st Mar 2021) and the coldest April night since before 1991 (-5.8C on 7th April 2021) occurred only a week apart. Who knows, next year we might be back to warm sector blandness! -- Norman Lynagh Tideswell, Derbyshire 303m a.s.l. https://peakdistrictweather.org Twitter: @TideswellWeathr |

My top 10 a 2020 - 231.8 hrs 2007 - 228.7 2021 - 212.8 2012 - 195.0 2016 - 192.2 1984 - 186.3 2019 - 184.4 2011 - 180.9 2004 - 180.1 1969 - 166.9 Graham (Weston Coyney) |
