West Cornwall - Horrendous spell of weather contions.
Well, there is no doubt the last few days have been awful. Since the 9th the wind has at no point fallen below a F5 (if I did, I didn't notice!) and has frequently been F6-7. There has been basically no sunshine, bright has just about been achieved.
Even the snow on 9th wasn't that enjoyable, as it was combined with a F6 easterly.
We've had icy roads, flooding over the prom associated with the biggest sea into SE facing Penzance of the winter, branches down due to the wind . . .
Yesterday, on the local BBC Spotlight forecast, I was told that fronts were starting to push their way in from the Atlantic, though the 1st would would be weak! Bl**dy hell, I'd hate to see an active one. The current one's given 6mm rain since around 05:00 & and it's gusting 50mph on cliff tops. As far as us Cornish are concerned (& Cornwall is a significant part of the BBC SW area) fronts have been pushing in from the Atlantic since last Tuesday, to make things even worse they've ground to a halt. It's been the longest spell of sustained very strong winds for a very, very long time, combined with a bit of a wind chill!
My wife asked me just now, as the weather's been so consistently stormy why hasn't there been a named storm. I didn't attempt to explain, I'd be on to a loser.
Roll on Monday!!
I feel better now.
