Default Missing obbservations

From the Met Office yesterday:

----------------------------------------------------------------

An updated announcement has been issued as below;

Loss of Some Observations - Updated 13/01/2021

13/01/21

Observations from the following sites have currently been lost:

• Wainfleet No 2 (03392) (BASIC Network)
• Wisley (99080)
• Kew Gardens (99095)
• North Wyke (99081)

Remote attempts to resolve issues have not been successful. Movement of Met
Office engineers is being kept to a minimum, so access to these sites is
currently not possible.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Please contact for further
information if required.

Two of these sites are quite long-running climat. stations. Wisley (records from 1904) has been out of action since Boxing Day, in fact. I hope that both here and at Kew Gardens, they are making manual 09h observations. Presumably they are aware of the failure of the auto equipment - over the years I've had a bit of contact with observers at both sites and Wisley staff have noticed slight differences between the manual and auto obs, but that's another matter for now!
