Well, virtually every time. In winter hardly a day goes back without the forecast say 'coastal gales' for Cornwall.
So tomorrow for the MetO SW weather "Monday: Scattered showers continue throughout the day with spells of sunshine in between. Rather mild, with gusty winds and coastal gales." When the forecast wind speeds are not remotely near gale force. In fact you'd be hard pushed to find a 'gale force gust' if there was such a thing. For coastal Penzance the forecast mean wind speed for tomorrow ranges from 17-23mph!! Whilst I'm at it the air's full of salt spray & the visibility is moderate, not the forecast VG to E. Yes I know visibility forecasts don't take into account many things that affect visibility, in the same way as forecasts of gales ignore the beaufort wind scale. I must move with the times!
