Default Tideswell - New rainfall record

My period of recording here is quite short, having started only in
January 2009. However, it is notable that the 180-day rainfall total
(916.7 mm) to 0900z today is the highest in my 180-day running totals.
Corresponding figures for 30/60/90/120/365-day running totals are not
at record values, at least not yet!

That got me looking.

Just using a 6 month running total (Sept-Feb) so far, the figure is 1005.4mm

This, not yet complete, 6 month total is only beaten by 1072.2mm for the 6 months ending Feb '94, and the quite exceptional wet period in 2001.

During the 2000/2001 wet period 4 consecutive months saw the 6 months running total exceed 1,100mm. Peaking at 1207.7mm at the end of Feb 2001.

As it shows now sign of settling down, this looks like being the wettest such spell since 2000/2001, and the 2nd wettest in the last 30 years.

Still loads of snow for the skiers in Glencoe & Nevis.

My winter total Dec to Feb is not going to be anywhere near a record here.
It looks as if it is going to be the 7th wettest in my record going back to 1985.

However, like you Graham, this got me looking at the last 6 months, Sep to Feb.
This is only the second time in the 35 year record when every month has a total greater than 100 mm. Total so far 876.1 mm.

The greatest 6 month total was 1993-94 when 921.2 fell.

Other high totals are
2000-2001 had 845.0 mm
2012-2013 had 890.8 mm
2013-2014 had 885.5 mm.

So there is a good chance of the latest Sep to Feb period coming in as the second wettest in the last 35 years here in Wembury, SW Devon.

Very soggy here too Norman though not as wet as you.

The last 180 days have poured 677 mm of the wet stuff down on us here in
a normally quite dry part of the South West. And was a sizeable chunk of
the 2019 annual total of 940 mm. Rather above my annual average of 790 mm.

That's not far off my driest entire year which was 2011 with 711 mm.
