Default Frost free winter - how rare ?

Obviously it depends on the site but inner and central London look to be shaping up for a completely frost free winter (and last year only had a couple of frosts). Even ground frosts have been almost absent.

I’m just wondering how rare an event this would be.

I will check but I think that the London St James's Park official weather station site might have had one or two very slight air frosts this winter.

In a low-lying but fairly rural area of SE England, I reckon we've had
about half a dozen air frosts this winter, with the coldest probably
being about -3C. I know that central London tends to be a good bit
milder, so it's certainly conceivable that there might not have been an
air frost.

At my station in Penzance the number of air frosts is extremely variable

1994/95, 2007/08, 2013/14 all had no air frosts. This winter has had 1 so far.

Taking the year 2002 had no air frosts, whilst out on it's own with 46 air frosts was 2010, a truly exceptional year! Only 5 other years since 1991 have scraped into double figures.

Forgot to mention, there are bluebells (Spanish I think) out in my garden, the daffs are basically over. The primroses have been out for weeks.

We're still in peak snowdrop season. There's a few crocus flowers
trying to open. Daffs are weeks away yet. Indoor lambing is well under
way but none out in the fields yet.

Only need about a further 8 mm of rain to make this the wettest
February in my 11-year record. There's a lot of water pouring off the
fields and running away downhill. Ultimately, it all ends up in the
Trent, via the Wye and the Derwent

Rather surprisingly, I note that we have had 8 days with snow/sleet
falling this month. Only 5 air frosts, though.

Strangely, snowdrops & daffodils often seem to bloom a very similar time here. I'm certainly no expert, but it seems that snowdrops are more fixed to a certain time of year, whilst daffodils are more influenced by climate/weather.

Snowdrops and daffs seem to flower at the same time here but there are
so many 'bred' varieties that flower earlier and earlier that you cannot
use them as a gauge. My native daffs in the garden will not be in flower
until the end of March.

Here the lambs are born outside in the late autumn and spend the winter
outdoors. They are getting quite big now and will disappear soon.....
