Default Repost: changes to issues etc., for FAQ/Glossary

Elsewhere, I have announced the latest version of the FAQ & Glossary for
this newsgroup. There are changes, some fundamental, that will occur
both to the primary hosting site and update cycles for these sources of
information - these have been 'flagged' over the past 6 months or so:
PLEASE NOTE CAREFULLY!

*****

CHANGE IN UPDATE FREQUENCY

1. As previously announced, with this issue (mid-September), I bring to
an end the
'every-other-month' update/re-issue cycle. The revised scheme is
detailed below.

2. The FAQ will now be issued (and therefore updated), three times a
year: one around Christmas / New Year, one in spring (roughly late March
/ early April) and one late 'High Summer', (end August / early
September). The sequential numbering will continue, but I shall (after
this issue) add a line which states when the next update is due.

3. The Glossary will be updated, added-to etc., _as and when required_;
independently of the FAQ updates. No announcement of this will occur,
but as before, there will be a prominent 'Latest Issue' date so you can
check whether you have the latest version.

CHANGE IN HOSTING SERVER

4. As previously announced, I will be *abandoning* my Demon Internet
account when the current contract expires (end January 2004). This
means that the FAQ & Glossary files, plus associated linked-files, that
are currently part of the "www.booty.demon.co.uk/" structure will be
withdrawn (by default / account closure) around that date. Further, the
files currently on the Demon site will *not* now be updated. (See 7.
below)

5. I have already included some notices within the latest update on the
Demon file versions to this end, and around the end of this year, I
shall force re-direction of the principal files (full FAQ, full Glossary
and main MetIndex), across to the NTL server (see below).

6. IMPORTANT: If you have linked to the FAQ / Glossary direct to the
Demon site, you should alter the links as soon as convenient, and not
later than end January 2004.

7. The new site is now part of the
"homepage.ntlworld.com/booty.weather/" cluster of files - with this
update, I have updated BOTH sets (Demon and NTL), so you can already use
the NTL cluster and be sure you have the latest issue. However, from
this month (September), *only* the NTL files will be updated.

8. Where url's need to be changed (in linked documents), then simply
replace:
www.booty.demon.co.uk/
with
homepage.ntlworld.com/booty.weather/

So, for the full FAQ, the old url was:
http://www.booty.demon.co.uk/metinfo/uswfaq.htm
and is now
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/booty.w...nfo/uswfaq.htm

I have tried to make sure that all the relevant files have been copied
across to the new site, but if you find missing files / broken links,
then let me know.

FALLBACK SITE

8. Les Crossan has kindly set up an independent hosting location for the
main FAQ and Glossary: you can find these at:
....
'Fall-back' whole-file versions can now also be found at:-

http://www.uksevereweather.org.uk/
or
http://cc0020209.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/index.htm
(use "hot-links" at head of page)

or direct to the FAQ via:-
http://82.39.122.1/uswfaq.htm

Finally, can I ask that if you know YOUR site is listed in the FAQ, and
you change file name, directory structure, web-site etc., you let me
know. This will save a lot of work, and avoid 'page not available'
errors. Thankyou.

Martin.
