GISS temperatures have just arrived,
This October had an anomaly of +0.99C above the 1951-80 average. This makes it the second warmest October since 2015 which saw an anomaly of +1.08C.This would put it +1.19C above the pre-industrial average according to the Met Office (and IPCC). However, I feel the true figure is closer to +1.39C due to the selection of the baseline well after the start of the Industrial Revolution and other differences in data. The 12-month mean (Nov-Oct) is the 3rd highest at +0.83C behind 2016 at +1.03C and 2017 at 0.90C. This recent jump in temperatures is probably due to the currently developing El Nino event. I'll update my graphs shortly, probably tomorrow. -- Graham P Davis, Bracknell, Berks.
