This is worth a read. It's a rapidly developing issue that has the
potential to turn Brexit into a side-show.

It's not just fossil fuels, deforestation is just as depressing. You would think deforestation would be relatively easy to reduce. After all if you're going to turn up the CO2 tap, blocking the plughole is a very bad idea.

Icelands Advert regarding the fact it was phasing out palm oil, an industry as environmentally unfriendly as it gets, has been banned for being political. (Unlike the advert on the side of Boris' bus).

Basically because it was based on Greenpeace film, and Greenpeace happened to reveal correspondence between DEVRA & the MOD stating that supporting an EU wide ban on Palm oil could put at risk defence deal with Maylasia, the worlds biggest producer, to replace it's fighter jets with British built planes. Also Maylasia takes a lot of our plastic which they just dump, but it helps councils hit fake recycling targets, which is all that matters. You recycle your plastic into bags & most now ends up as landfill or in the sea https://www.independent.co.uk/enviro...-a8400761.html

The decision to ban the advert has been widely condemned ( bit here https://www.theguardian.com/commenti...alm-oil-banned ) but who cares about the planet when arm sales are at stake.

Have I drifted OT?

Well put Graham. I fear the World is on course for oblivion in many forms.

Not off topic at all - such issues are fundamental to our future. And in the article that Norman posted, it highlights the threat that nationalistic leaders pose in the short term ('America First - America First'). I only hope it is just the short term!

Meanwhile, back to the present and it has been raining here almost non-stop since 2.30pm. 'Showers' has not really been the appropriate term.

On that same theme, another worrying read

.......and also back to the present, a splendid afternoon here with well
broken cloud and good sunny spells. It was ideal for a walk.
